Chances are that unless you have some part time job as a belly dancer, that you would like to lose fat around your mid-section.
Whenever you start an exercise program for the first time and as a lot of my clients will testify, one of the comments they will make is to lose the love handles or the wobble above their skirt or trousers.
For some, they have been or are currently involved in a health regime and the good news is that they have lost weight, just not where they wanted to most.
And there will be lots of other stories like these, each with a different twist that finishes with “How do I lose the belly?”
I’ve listened to lots of stories on what exercise programs have been used and how to eat which have not been the best so here is a rundown of things not to do.
Lots of Cardio, referring to running, walking at a steady pace. There are different types of cardio and the one most people will think of is aerobic at a low intensity. Whie I will say that any type of activity is better than none, better progress will be made with resistance training and high intensity interval training. The benefits are also far more reaching than losing weight but that’s for a different time.
Avoiding fat in the diet. Fatis required as much as protein and carbs. You’ll eat them in different amounts but fat is required for energy, internal health and and better use of your nutrition. Eat the fat, just don’t decide that means indulging in Big Macs. That is far from what I mean
Exercise is not an excuse to then go and eat more. I’ve come across mindsets that think they will lose weight because of that hard session they had and so indulge in more food. Doesn’t have to be bad food and it doesn’t have to mean larger meals but over the course of a day you may eat more. Don’t cry when you get tested and you’ve not lost weight
Not paying attention to the quality of foods you eat. It is the quality of food that will determine how effective a fat burning machine you become.
Spending lots of hours exercising. Just as the quality of food is important so is the quality of exercise.
Performing endless sit-ups or other abdominal specific exercises and routines. Isolation exercises do not isolate where you are going to burn weight off from. Choose instead a balanced all over body program.
Not having a program is a big reason why many fail. Not only does it mean you may not be exercising correctly but that no direction often leads to missed and poor quality workouts.
Changing to the brighter side of exercise and nutrition will not only burn fat quicker, it will help target problem areas and save you alot of time.
Only an insane person would continue to do the things that fail to work
