I’m too old for this ****

One of my favourite quotes and probably well recognised for the collection of Lethal Weapon films starring Danny Glover.

Well, the last post of the day (I’m on severe catchup since my latest set of technical problems are now behind me) concentrates on the older generation who just like anyone else need to look after themselves for health and fitness reasons.

This next excerpt is from another blog of a good friend of mine that I thought would be a good reminder to anyone that considers themselves to be too old or the friends and relatives of people in the older generation that would like them to consider their general health and well being.

Here it is…

I just picked up part of a post from another community. Thought you should see it…

“I had to say I enjoyed hearing one of the competitors this weekend at a PL meet
tell me she was “delighted with her bench effort but disappointed she
didn’t deadlift enough”.

She had been doing around 240 lbs in the gym but only managed about 215 lbs at the meet.

She was over 70 years of age

I can’t off hand remember her weight class, but she looks
around 110 lbs tops….!”

It’s too easy to play the ‘joker’ and make excuses about not being able to do the things we want to because we’re getting older yet there are people out there (thousands and thousands of them) that PROVE that this is not the case.

If we ‘run down’ as we age it’s because we choose to, nothing more, nothing less.

You guys know this of course, but just make sure you take every opportunity to remind each and every one of your ‘older’ clients that you’re not there only to help them maintain.

You’re there to help them improve!

I could not agree more. A big principle of my system is that we are not there (as fitness professionals) to maintain, we are there to help you improve in some shape or form.

By doing something that challenges you doesn’t mean you compromise your safety.

Alternatively, just becasue you are older doesn’t mean that time has passed you by and it is too late to make a change for the better.

There is many an example around you that shows this not to be the case.

No excuses!
