I Believe…

One of the things that I pride myself on is my openness.

As a client of mine only said last week, “You wear your heart on your sleeve Mike”

This got me thinking because I’m 100% sure that not all my clients, friends, family and others such as you reading this right now do not know me and who I am and what I believe.

Yeah, You read my blog, you listen to me when I coach you and we have a good communication thing going on. Otherwise you probably wouldn’t keep on coming back?

I tell you my views on all things that help you succeed in the pursuit of health and fitness.

You’ll know a bit about me and my personal story and what I am up to.

In fact alot of my clients, I now count as my friends.

Alot of my colleagues in the industry, I count as my friends.

But I got thinking that in spite of all this I feel secluded!

I feel like I am holding something back. Something more powerful that when released would give me a huge sense of relief and energy that could fuel a big city.

I want to share with you everything about what I believe in, what I stand for

Do you really think you know me then?

I believe that the role of fitness pros like myself is becoming more and more important to the feeling of happiness and success in this world. We are living in a society where time is supposed to be never available and we are always in a rush. I see people getting more and more stressed and out of shape. And we are spending more money than ever on products and services that are going to “make us thinner”, yet we are in an epidemic of overweight and obesity. Why?

As a fitness professional I KNOW that I CHANGE lives for the better, that we can look after peoples health while it is there instead of waiting for the flashing sirens and reacting to matters, however small and large in scale.

What I also know is that if anyone needs help, then we one of a very few professions that can help. We have doctors and chiropractors amongst others that “fix” people but who cannot prevent a large proportion of these problems from occurring. I believe that we live in an era where reactive beats proactive to the floor and we are paying for it financially and otherwise.

I believe that nothing make me happier than hearing a success story on how losing some pounds and getting fit has changed a persons life for the better. How they can now do things that they could hardly do when they were young. How they have even become more successful because of it whether it be in their personal life or working. When a client has been told they may have rheumatoid arthritis and now we have him waking up without pain and running without pain….I feel that I have made a difference.

I believe I have as much a contribution to give as some surgeon or specialist who is seen as the messiah while I’m lumped in with the cowboys of the fitness industry who just wanna see how hard they can push you before you quit.

I believe people make too many excuses when it comes to why they cannot lose weight. When I see a woman in her mid 50’s lose 5 stone and loves to exercise when only 2 years ago she was afraid of it, I know that you can achieve anything. I see only people who look for reasons that are flawed and weaknesses that need to be strengthened.

Listen now

Lack of time is not a reason

Don’t know what to do is not a reason

You have the ability to jump any hurdle thrown in front of you and make a change. Many have!

I believe that we need support to get the best out of us. Life is not easy on our own.

We should not be frightened or feel inferior to ask for help. Not only does this help us in the darker times but it makes us better in the good times as well. I believe talent will only get you so far and that a mentor or coach will lead the quickest most effective way forward.

I believe all employers should take ownership of their employees health if only from the selfish viewpoint that it will save them money. I came from a major finance company that literally sucked the blood and spirit from it’s staff and spent thousands on sick leave, training and recruitment. If all companies made a proactive contribution to the health of their workforce maybe they would have more in the piggy bank now come the credit crunch. I dream of the day when all companies run in-house health programs.

I believe that commercial gyms are not doing enough to help their customers realise what they pay them for.

They are just another corporate machine interested in the dollar and might as well be another coffee chain.

I believe we need to get back to basics and use our parks and the outdoors to it’s fullest potential, to have monkey bars for children and adults and all other manner of objects and equipment that keep us active and on our doorstep.  Let’s make it fun! Exercise NEVER has to be a chore.

…….

But I do believe this is all changing for the better!

I believe that I have gone on for long enough

Mike
