The Healthy Eating Meal sucks!

Hi all

Following on from my last post, I’m going to open a discussion on eating choices you make when you are trying to lose weight.

One of the choices you have is to go for the ready made healthy meal option that all the supermarkets are putting on their shelves. As well as being very convenient; stick it in the oven for 20 minutes while you’re doing something else and ‘ping’; it’s ready to eat; they also make the same meals as a healthy option.  The main part of this is that the meal  has reduced calories.

On reduced calories alone, these meals have a great principle, infact IT IS the major principle when it comes to weight loss and as I like to describe it fat loss - we all want to lose the wobbly bits! When all is said and done (and I do like to rabbit on) the maths is key! If energy consumed by means of food and drink is less than energy expended via activity then you will lose weight, if it is the other way round then you will not lose weight. Simple eh?

Now there are several other factors that then affect what weight is lost like the fat and this then relates to a fundamental flaw with these ready made healthy meals.

You see, next time you pick up one of these meals look at the ingredients on the back and you’ll see alot of substances that look so foreign that you’ll think you’re shopping in Bulgaria and this is to do with the processing of these meals to package them and keep them on the shelves longer. These substances are not meant to be in your body and can be classed as toxic as the body doesn’t know how to use them so they get funneled into the tissue where fat is stored. As long as these toxins are continued to be fed into the body with these meals and any other processed food, the ability for your body to burn fat lowers and lowers.

How’s that for a shovel to the head? Just when you think you are eating healthy, you are infact enhancing your chances of storing bodyfat!

On top of this processed food also produces a quicker insulin response on eating (also check for sugar in these foods…there is loads!) meaning the energy provided by the food will last for a shorter period and may also not be fuly utilised before the waste is transported off to you know where….the fat stores.

So if you’re serious about losing weight, stick to more natural foods with less ingredients from Bulgaria and added sugar. The gains will be quicker and more sustainable.

Calories can still be kept low, you needn’t be slaving in the kitchen for an hour and you’ll stay more satisfied and full for as long as you should be.

Who’s on for that?

Regards

Mike
