My diet is pants….what should I do

A big part of improving your body shape, burning fat, losing weight and improving performance is to have a consistent and healthy nutrition plan. Exercise is fundamental to safer and more efficient fat loss but there is a good saying that you cannot outrain a lousy diet and I agree with that 100%.

The food types you eat, what times you eat, the amount you eat will play a big role as to how successful you are and how rapid you success is so it is important to understand from one individual to the next what role food plays in your life.

What triggers you to eat? Is it an emotional response such as stress at home or work, family issues or perhaps a response to self-esteem. There is plenty of evidence that does link overeating to  said examples relating to an emotional response. In turn the food is seen as a comfort and hormonal responses in the body show a comfort from eating. Many of you may have heard of the hormone seratonin (or not) which increases when you get that soothing effect from food, especially associated with chocolate!

If this persists when you are in a phase where you are trying to lose weight, then it is imperative that you tackle the cause of this overeating first.  If it falls in the boundaries of health and fitness, then it is very likely that it is something a fitness professional can help you with directly or give advice towards. If it is external to that, then no amount of training is going to help.  This might sound drastic and negative but it is important to tackle the core of the problem.  While you would expect to get a good break from your problems by undertaking a health and fitness program and gain benefits associated with exercise such as feeling fitter and having more energy, they are likely to stop when it comes to actually losing weight.

So if your overeating falls into this category, tackle the external problem first! Your victories will come alot sooner as a result.

Next time, I’ll discuss concerns with what you actually eat, especially so called diet foods
