Below are a set of responses to commonly asked questions that may or may not be contained in other sections of the website and have been grouped together here for reference.
Q. What does Personal Training involve?
A. First of all, let me say that the Personal Training experience with The Body Planner is not an appointment based system, it is not purely training for an hour and a see you next time approach. Another more meanigful title would be your Personal Coach. The term coach is used in sports a lot and can be described as someone who is in charge of training an athlete or team. The aim of the coach is training with a purpose to win and that is what you get with this Personal Training experience. So whether your purpose is to lose weight or perform better in life or sports, we will coach you towards that result.
A big part of that is your exercise and physiology (corrective exercise, flexibility, weakness) so that will form a major part of appointments. Other areas that will be considered are goal setting, motivational techniques, nutrition and lifestyle factors. While everyone who uses our system will experience these areas, some may use them more than others depending upon how necessary they are.
Between appointments, you will be expected to undertake an exercise routine so programs are also designed for you to follow and changed on a frequent basis to avoid becoming used to a routine and becoming stagnant in terms of your progress.
Other exercises will also be performed such as nutrition and lifestyle profiling in order to get the best results and some contact out side of appointment time will be provided via phone or email to keep you on track.
Q. Where are you based?
A. We are a home or company based training company based in South Manchester, about 1/2 mile from Didsbury village. Our aim is to make training convenient and bring it to your home and work and the outdoors. Exercise should not be a chore because you cannot get to the gym. For many, the gym is not an option and we make people realise that you do not need fancy equipment to get in shape, infact alot of the time this same equipment is damaging your chances of success and being injury free. We also work with gym or health club members who want the benefits of our expert advice and guarantee. Our appointments will also take place at your home, place of work or the outdoors.
Q. What areas do you cover?
A. As we are based in South Manchester, we mainly cover the surrounding within a 10 mile radius of Didsbury Village. As a reference, some of the villages contained within this area that work in include West Didsbury, Chorlton, Sale, Heatons, Stockport, Cheadle, Wilmslow, Bramhall and Alderley Edge.
Q. What equipment do I need?
A. We will bring all the equipment that you need to the appointments. Between appointments, programs will be provided based on hundreds of bodyweight exercises and equipment of your own. You do not or should not be expected to purchase any equipment but it is quite common to be asked for advice on what to purchase if you are interested in getting some bits and pieces. We are happy to do this but it is not compulsory to get results. As mentioned previously, effective programs can be designed using the good equipment that your gym may have.
Q. I have a very busy job, a family and little time. What should I do?
A. This is a question or topic that comes up alot in some way or another. You want to make a change but you are concerned that you do not have the time.
I can tell you now that there is no pefect time to commence a program, it is about being organised, showing a committment and making changes that work.
That is where we come in and show you that you do not need hour after hour to get results. Our unique system is based around the idea that you do not have much spare time and can be accomodated into any lifestyle with the right attitude.
If we have any concerns that you are not able to accomodate, then we would not be willing to bring you on board. The reasons for this - to protect your time and investment and our reputation, effectiveness and happiness.
Q. I don't feel fit enough to start exercising with a coach yet, what should I do?
A. This is a misconception about Personal Training for some people that you have to be at a certain level of ability and experience to participate and get the most out of it.
First of all, your program is tailored to your specific needs, what works for one may not work for another so don't be concerned if you know someone who is training with us who is fitter and able to do all manner of movements at a high level of effort. You will be inducted at an appropriate level after you have been assessed thoroughly and questioned about your current health and lifestyle.
Secondly, the sooner you start, the sooner you will expected to progress. It is in those early stages where poor habits, techniques and injuries can be picked up resulting in slow progress and declining motivation. The uniqueness of your program is what makes your progress the quickest.
Q. I have a sore back, I have high blood pressure, I have....
A. This just follows on from the previous 2 questions. To repeat, there is no perfect time to start and your assessment we will take all factors into account. We have had many clients that have undergone the training experience to alleviate back pain, HBP and other conditions and have done so successfully.
As part of the consult, you will complete a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) that will highlight any issues. Should we feel it appropriate, we would ask for your GP's permission to commence any training plan so there is no risk and from experience more likely to be a beneift.
Q. How long are appointments?
A. Face to face appointments are 1 hour. This time will cover a program design incorporating some or all of warm-up, stretching, corrective exercise, core exercise, resistance training, interval training, speed work and recovery.
Other components such as goal achievement, nutrition planning and any other Q and A will also take place as necessary and outside of appointments.
Q. How long should I wait to see results?
A. Changes should be almost immediate for general feeling of health and vitality. Inches and fat loss will be gradual over days and weeks with a significant change by the end of the first 4 weeks, assuming you are an active participant who uses all the tools and advice given. Again, that is why we are proud to have a vetting procedure to avoid disappointment.
Q. I also have a friend/partner/colleague who would like to train. Can we train together?
A. Certainly. Group or Semi-Private training is available and provided already.

Q. What are your fees?
A. Full details on fees are provided on request after an enquiry and during the consultation. This is because they vary according to whether you are an individual or small group (up to a maximum of 4 and subject to space) and longevity and frequency of each contract.

I can say that expert advice and guaranteed results mean that we are at the premium end of rates and that if you shop based on solely price then we are probably not the company for you. If you are wishing to attain the highest level of service and self-improvement, then you have come to the right place.
Q. Tell me about your qualifications and insurance.
A. We are qualified to the highest level for Personal Trainers and Sports Therapists and continue to specialise and learn in areas of interest.
For your own peace of mind we are fully insured and carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
All certifcates can be provided on request during the consultation.
Q. I like your principles but I'm not interested in dropping a clothes sizeA. If that is the case, then fine. On consultation we always check to make sure that it is appropriate to lose weight or inches. If it is not then we work solely on our other principles to change your lifestyle, health and fitness for the better. As we have said before we are very keen to make sure that you can perform better in life. We tend to find that with our training system improvements in body shape will come naturally anyway.
The principles and methods used are our own beliefs in training for getting results in fitness and performance for your lifestyle and in sport specific. Burning fat is an attractive extra.
